Easement Sign off

Per city ordinances Structures on easements are prohibited.

Sec. 6-51

No structure of any kind or nature, including but not limited to buildings and outbuildings, shall be placed upon any utility easement in the city shown or recorded in the public records of Wabash County, Illinois.

 

Easements on properties are used for water mains, sewer mains, gas lines, electric lines, telephone, cable and internet.

The easement sign-off form is sent to Mount Carmel Public Utility by the City Inspector to be completed before any building permit will be approved by the city of Mount Carmel. This was an agreement between The City of Mount Carmel and Mount Carmel Public Utility Company in an effort to regulate the construction or placement of structures onto lawful easements.

It is the property owner's responsibility to know there property lines and know the easement areas of their property. 

Easements are recorded in public records with the County of Wabash, Illinois. They can be found in the County Clerk's Office or the County Assessor's Office. 

When turning in any application for permits a plat of the property showing any recorded easements must be included with the application.
